Two Locations! South Platte River and Cherry Creek -2013

Looking for a way to get your kids outside and active this summer while you are at work? Don't want them to stop learning just because it's summer? Then Adventures Outside is for you!

We now have two camps at two locations! We will have our original camp along the South Platte River and a new camp in Downtown Denver at the Cherry Creek. Please be sure to note which camp you are signing up for.

When: We offer week long camps. Camps run Monday through Friday from June 10th through August 23rd, from 7:30AM to 6PM. 

Drop Off Time: 7:30 AM - 9 AM
Main Camp Activities: 9 AM - 3 PM
Pick Up Time: 3 PM - 6 PM

June 10-14, 2013: Special Agent Training: Defeat the Trash Monster, $150

A creature lurks along the banks of the South Platte River… Can you, with the help of Chompers and the SPREE Staff, learn how to defeat the Trash Monster? You may need some help from the local decomposers –worms, fungi, and bacteria will be explored as we learn how these living things break down waste.

June 10-14, 2013: Outdoor Adventures, $180

Get ready for adventures along the South Platte River and Cherry Creek. Campers will go check out urban rafting and explore the trails of the city. Join us this week to test your nerves and get outside!

June 17-21, 2013: Return of the River Art Ninja, $150

Learn about the South Platte River through art inspiration. Beautiful works of art inspired by the River will be created and put on display for a River Art Exhibit. Create, decorate and have fun!

June 17-21, 2013: The City’s Secret Tunnels- A Journey of Water, $180

Have you ever wondered where your water comes from and where is goes once it is used? Where does all of the rain go in the summer? Discover Denver’s secret tunnels that transport water to your home, away to the treatment plant and storm drains.

June 24-28, 2013: Junior River Rangers, $150

Ever wonder what it takes to care for a park in the city? Learn what it takes to become a steward of the South Platte River by building trails, caring for plants, eradicating invasive species and educating others about the River. We will work with Denver Parks and Recreation to volunteer in Vanderbilt Park. But of course, the harder we work the harder we will play!

June 24-28, 2013: Nature Inventors, $180

Put on your thinking cap and start inventing! Campers will check out inventions inspired by nature and even create their own unique ideas. Discover the inspirations that came from beavers, buildings inspired by birds’ nests and more.

July 1-5, 2013: Splash in the City, $150

What better way to celebrate the Fourth of July than to play water games and cool off! Campers will learn about how we use water in Denver, where it comes from and where it goes when it goes down the drain.  Experiment with different ways to defeat the heat!

July 1-5, 2013: Defeat the Couch Potato- Outdoor Games and Fun, $180

Celebrate the Fourth of July with games and sports outside! Campers will defeat the summer time couch potato by getting outside and exploring everything the parks have to offer.

July 8-12, 2013: Surviving the Wilderness –Overnight camp out!, $150 

Spend a week learning about camping in the wilderness and how to survive without the amenities of home. This week will teach campers how to set up a tent, what to pack and fun games to play in the wilderness. The week will end with a Friday night camp out with campers, staff and parents! (There is a $20 aditional fee for campers and parents staying the night. This fee will cover food and any rental equipment your family may require. One parent must be in attendance for the campout.)

July 8-12, 2013: River Fine Art, $180

Get ready to be inspired and to create! Campers will explore the public artwork of Denver, the Contemporary Art Museum and more as they learn about fine art and art inspired by the River.

Who is living in the Cherry Creek and the South Platte River? Discover the underwater creatures of Denver and what they mean about the health of the River. Campers will discover the Denver Aquarium and more in this week long investigation about water creatures.

Discover who is living in the South Platte River and what it means to be a healthy River. Put on your lab jacket, get out your safety goggles and get ready to explore the river! Trout Unlimited will help students identify the life in the river and what it means for us.

July 22-26, 2013: The Secret Life of Plants, $180

Explore and experiment with the plants we can see growing here in Denver. Campers will work with Denver Parks and Recreation in Centennial Gardens to help maintain a healthy garden. But of course, the harder we work, the harder we will play!

July 29-August 2, 2013: Mammal Mysteries, $150

Discover the Mammals in and along the South Platte River. How can a local animal transform a landscape? What mammal lives in a nest of leaves? Learn the answer to these questions and more as we explore native mammals as detectives along the River.

July 29 –August 2, 2013: Time Travelers- Native Americans to the Gold Rush, $180

Discover Denver’s past from the Native Americans to the Gold Rush. Learn about the Arapaho and Cheyenne who depended on the Rivers for water. Reenact the Gold Rush by learning how to pan for Gold in the Creek. Travel through time to learn about the importance of the River in Denver’s past.

Study the creepy crawly world of macroinvertebrates and insects. Learn about aquatic insects, crawdads, arachnids and land insects. Campers will shrink down and study the creatures along the South Platte River.

Homesteaders, Union Station and the Colorado Capital! How did Denver grow from a small panning encampment into the massive city it is today. Reenact the lives of pioneers, ride the Trolley in Downtown Denver and visit the states capital.
