Mile High Mile Scholarship Fund

SPREE is committed to encouraging an active outdoor lifestyle that engages Denver's children with nature and promotes healthy kids. The need is great, and the poorest children in our city are at the highest risk for obesity and disease related to obesity:

The number of children who are overweight in the United States has doubled in the last two to three decades; currently one child in five is overweight (Torgan, 2002)
Children from low-income households in Denver’s inner city are more likely to become obese (Colorado Children’s Campaign, 2007).
There was a 73 percent increase in the number of children living in poverty in Colorado from 2000 to 2006.  The majority of these children live in the urban core of Denver (Colorado Children’s Campaign, 2008).
66.9% of children living in Denver rely on Federal assistance under the Free and Reduced Lunch Program to be able to afford lunch each day (Colorado Children’s Campaign, 2008).

Many of the students at our SPREE Schools are unable to afford the race entry fee or find sponsors for them to participate in the race. In order to ensure that no child is left out, the Mile High Mile Scholarship Fund was created. Please consider sponsoring a kid by donating the cost of their registration fee. All donations are tax deductible, and donations over $250 are also eligible for a 25% state income tax credit. That means that your donation of $250 only costs you $125 (based on 25% income tax bracket, please consult a licensed tax professional for more information about the tax deductibility and tax credit opportunities made available by your donation).
