Fishing for Kids

SPREE has teamed with the Division of Wildlife (DOW), and Environmental Learning for Kids (ELK) to create Fishing for Kids, a program that provides an exciting day of fishing at Overland Pond Park along the South Platte River.  Experienced anglers from the Division of Wildlife and ELK work with the students to teach them about fishing etiquette, fishing safety, fish anatomy, and fishing techniques. After practicing these skills, the students are allowed to spread out along the pond to fish. DOW stocks the pond with rainbow trout.

Best of all, at the end of the day, each child gets to keep their fishing rod!

The fishing adventures at Overland Pond provide an extra experience along the South Platte River for SPREE students to continue to build a true love of nature and respect for the fish and other species of wildlife that exists within our City’s greatest natural resource.
